Politics Society @ Liverpool Guild of Students
The core of our membership is drawn from students on politics courses, although we’re keen to expand our membership and attract more students so don’t be shy! Our aim is to promote political discussion and engagement from all students, while meeting some fun new people along the way. Since its conception in 1977 the St John’s politics society has welcomed an array of political figures to the school, all willing to share their knowledge with pupils, staff and members of the public on a wide range of topics. The session, covered by our Funding and Student Recruitment teams, provides information and guidance about the various scholarships and funding opportunities for graduate study at UCL.
- The option aims to provide the space to build on your previous learning, to broaden your understanding of contemporary performance making, and to develop a critical and practical understanding of site-specific performance practices/histories.
- In the Culture and Performance modules, you will investigate contemporary notions of identity and culture in the UK and around the world in relation to an increasingly globalised world.
- The research project may be pursued as EITHER a purely theoretical project resulting in a 10,000-word dissertation; OR as practice-as-research, resulting in a substantial practical project linked to a 6,000-word dissertation.

Nonetheless, each application will be assessed upon its own merits, and so candidates with a degree in an unrelated discipline should demonstrate the relevance of their academic background to their proposed subject or topic of study.
Please note that due to staff research commitments not all of these modules may be available every year. You’ll be assessed through a variety of performances, production processes, ffs-dz.com essays, group projects, and a dissertation. This includes carrying out required and additional reading, preparing topics for discussion, and producing essays or project work.
Students will be looking at how historical and contemporary contexts and issues shed light on creative and theoretical developments and the work of specific playwrights, performance makers and theorists. Students will also be analysing individual plays and performances in seminars, considering the contextual influences of history and culture as well as genre and form. A variety of approaches will be covered with the intention of providing students with the tools necessary for rigorous critical and conceptual interpretation. This holistic experience is different from more technical, managerial environmental programmes and facilitates access to careers in international organisations , government , NGOs , education and a wide variety of charitable organisations.

Our society is one of the best ways politics students can get to know each other, settle into student life and enhance their university experience. Students will explore the process of creating ensemble performance in response to studies of key plays and how they can be interpreted in contemporary contexts. Performances can be located in any space that is not designated as a theatre and students will explore playfulness in the context of site-specificity and site responsiveness. An understanding of Space is central to this module; that it generates its own narratives and meanings and that space has political resonances.

Politics Society is a student-led group for students, which provides a forum and platform for students to learn, self-express, and engage in discussion of all things political. We strive to provide networking opportunities and careers events to empower students to take agency and pave their own future career path. AUSA Politics and International Relations Society is a student based society affiliated with the Aberdeen University Students’ Association.
In weekly seminars students will be encouraged to interrogate and debate their own creative and political relationships to performance cultures of various kinds. This module will equip students with the necessary theoretical tools to effectively position themselves as artists within global, postcolonial, multicultural, and/or intercultural communities. You will be introduced to particular historiographic approaches and methods, including the treatment of various source materials such as biographies, recorded testimonies, archived documents, published reviews, and oral histories. These skills will be practiced through the development of a small digital archive project, which will provide a basis for your final essay. Over the course of the module, we’ll study example by each ancient playwright whose works survive to the present day , as well as exploring the satyr play, and Aristophanes’ comic reflections on tragic playwriting. We’ll also consider ideas of ‘performance reception’, comparing these ancient plays in their historical context with the ways in which modern theatre-makers have revised, contested and transformed ancient dramatic texts to address their own societies.
This documentary has led me to all of the opportunities that have changed my life from writing articles for newspapers, speaking at conferences and giving a voice to my community. Studying at Goldsmiths changed my view on higher education, I never saw myself ever completing university or ever being able to achieve a BA and Goldsmiths helped me to achieve that. Urban planning and the relegation of the immigrés to the banlieues – huge tower blocks outside city centres – only exacerbate the situation. This module looks at playwrights and other theatre-makers both from France and from Africa, the Caribbean and Canada who tackle France’s colonial past, and its postcolonial present.
